Shipping and Receiving - Lead Forklift Operator 2ND SHIFT
Overview:
A Lead Forklift Operator is responsible for overseeing forklift operations, material movement, and the performance of the warehouse and yard team. This role ensures materials are handled safely, inventory is organized accurately, and shipments are prepared efficiently to meet production and customer demands. The Lead Forklift Operator monitors workflow, maintains safety and quality standards, completes inventory documentation, and provides guidance and training to team members. This position serves as the primary point of contact for forklift and material handling operations during the shift.
SHIFT - 2ND SHIFT M-F 2-10:30PM
Key Responsibilities:
• Maintain accurate records of material movements, inventory locations, and shipment staging.
• Communicate inventory, material handling, or shipment issues to supervisors or management.
• Oversee daily forklift operations and material handling team performance to ensure workflow and shipment goals are met.
• Safely operate forklifts and other material handling equipment in accordance with company procedures.
• Coordinate the staging of coils and materials for production and outbound shipments.
• Monitor material handling operations for safety, efficiency, and accuracy.
• Assign tasks to forklift operators and warehouse staff while monitoring workflow throughout the shift.
• Ensure proper pre-shift and post-shift equipment inspections are completed and documented.
• Complete and maintain accurate inventory, shipping, and ERP documentation.
• Ensure all team members follow company safety protocols and wear required PPE.
• Provide guidance, support, and hands-on training to new and current forklift operators.
• Report equipment malfunctions, material damage, inventory discrepancies, or workflow issues to management.
• Conduct routine checks to ensure materials are properly stored, stacked, and protected from damage.
• Maintain a clean and organized warehouse and yard environment in accordance with 5S or company cleanliness expectations.
• Participate in and promote a strong safety culture through communication, training, and safe practices.
• Coordinate and support bi-annual plant inventories.
• Ensure materials are available and staged to meet production and customer demand requirements.
• Follow and enforce all company policies and procedures.
• Participate in shift meetings and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Proven experience operating forklifts and handling industrial materials such as steel coils or heavy products.
Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a warehouse, logistics, or manufacturing environment preferred.
Strong understanding of material handling procedures, inventory control, and safety standards.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to accurately complete and manage inventory and shipping documentation.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Good communication, leadership, and teamwork abilities.
